POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

Join innovative faculty in the Department of Teacher Development and Educational Studies at Oakland University. We invite applications for a tenure-track position at the assistant professor rank in the area of Elementary Social Studies Education. We seek an individual with a strong background in elementary social studies teacher education. Applicants who have engaged in and apply equitable teaching practices, have an interest in practice-based teacher preparation, clinical experience, school-university partnerships, curriculum design and assessment practices, and teaching quality, are particularly encouraged to apply. We value candidates who can work collaboratively across departments and institutional boundaries and participate in sustained engagement with local schools and organizations in Southeast Michigan.

Position: Assistant Professor of Elementary Social Studies Education
Job Description Summary:
We seek to hire an assistant professor with expertise in elementary social studies education and teacher education. We are interested in a faculty member whose teaching practice is undergirded by contemporary research within social studies and elementary teacher education; whose work demonstrates a strong commitment to equitable teaching practices, social justice and diversity; who has an interest in and/or experience with practice-based teacher education; and who is eager to work collaboratively within the department, across departments, and within our university-school partnerships.

Responsibilities: teach undergraduate and graduate courses related to elementary social studies teaching; develop new courses to advance program delivery; advise graduate students; maintain active research and publication agendas; and collaborate to write grants and shape innovative programs.

Minimum Qualifications
Candidates are expected to have: 1) an earned doctorate or ABD (with completion by August 2019) in teacher education or a related field, with scholarly expertise in social studies education; 2) successful social studies teaching experience in grades K-8; and 3) a potential for accomplishment in scholarship.
