Lincoln University Expands Partnership With the Environmental Protection Agency

Historically Black Lincoln University in Pennsylvania and the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) have signed a renewed memorandum of understanding to enhance research, teaching, outreach, career development, and stewardship in the environmental sciences.

The original agreement between Lincoln and the EPA was signed in 2002. The new partnership will build on the initial success by supporting environmental science students, enhancing the Lincoln University faculty and the EPA’s employee professional development, providing Lincoln faculty with technical assistance support, enhancing Lincoln’s environmental sciences curriculum, promoting partnerships with other organizations, fostering community development, and supporting capacity building efforts at Lincoln University.

“We couldn’t be more excited for the renewal of this partnership,” said Lincoln University President Brenda A. Allen. “The University’s partnership with the EPA will provide high-impact and collaborative learning and research opportunities for our students and is part of Lincoln’s demonstrated commitment to developing strategic partnerships that enhance the education and professional development of our students and faculty.”

  1. I am writing from Nairobi, Kenya and submit that the partnership between Lincoln University and EPA will go along way in building bridges in research and mainstreaming environmental education in the University. Along the way other cross-cutting disciplines such as environmental engineering, environmental economics etc might be included in the partnership program of work and curricula.
It might also be necessary in the long run for Lincoln University to extend partnerships and learn from similar institutions in other parts of the world. Similar to EPA, here in Kenya we have the National Environment Management Authority(NEMA)
