University of Tennessee at Martin — Assistant Professor of Educational Studies in Curriculum & Instruction / Leadership – Early Childhood, Elementary or Secondary

The Department of Educational Studies at the University of Tennessee at Martin seeks candidates for a tenure-track position. Duties for this tenure-track position include teaching a 12-hour semester load of face-to-face or online courses in P-12 education. Additional responsibilities may include academic advising, mentoring student research, supervision and observation of practicums and field work, community outreach, service to the department, university and annual scholarship, and professional service.

The position also serves as the Faculty Coordinator of the UTM Call Me MISTER program. The mission of the Call Me MISTER (acronym for Mentors Instructing Students Toward Effective Role Models) National Initiative is to increase the pool of available teachers from a broader more diverse background particularly among the State’s lowest performing elementary schools. Student participants are largely selected from among under-served, socio-economically disadvantaged and educationally at-risk communities. To maximize opportunity and greater access, students will have the option of first attending one of our two-year partner colleges before transferring to a four-year institution to complete their program of study in teacher education and achieve the baccalaureate degree. It is expected that a MISTER who completes his program of study and becomes certified to teach will assume a teaching position and teach one year for each year they received financial support from the Call Me MISTER program. The Assistant Professor and Coordinator of Call Me MISTER will be responsible for all aspects of the program including recruitment, retention and student success.
