The University of Pennsylvania School of-Dental Medicine invites applications for the Chair of the Department of Periodontics. This full-time tenured or clinician-educator track faculty position is at the Associate or Full Professor level and involves the administrative responsibilities for the academic, research and clinical programs of the Department. The Department has education and clinical facilities within the School of Dental Medicine and has CODA-approved certificate programs in Periodontics, Periodontics with additional training in Fixed Prosthodontics and dual certificate programs in Periodontics and Orthodontics. Students may also be enrolled in combined certificate and DScD or MSOB programs. Preference will be given to applicants with a strong commitment to research as part of our tripartite mission of research, teaching and patient care.

The School of Dental Medicine is searching for an individual with outstanding leadership and academic accomplishments including:

  • Internationally recognized contribution to clinical and/or basic science research 
  • Clinical expertise in periodontics
  • NIH funding (and/or other extramural funding)
  • Experience mentoring students, residents and faculty


  • Individuals must have a DDS or DMD or equivalent degree
  • Individuals with dual degrees are encouraged to apply
  • Eligibility for dental licensure in Pennsylvania is preferred

Preference will be given to candidates who can foster collaborative research, enhance educational programs, ensure delivery of exceptional clinical care and have Board Certification by the American Board of Periodontology.
