University of Montevallo — Program Director, GEAR UP (Jefferson County)

The University of Montevallo, Alabama’s public liberal arts university, seeks a full-time, Program Director for the inaugural GEAR UP (Jefferson County) program. The purpose of this position is to supervise the operations and administration of the federal grant program, GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs). The Program Director will work with all other members of the project team and partners to oversee legal documents, agreements, personnel, and the completion of pertinent reports and milestones.

Essential Job Duties:

  1. Responsible for overall operation of the GEAR UP program;
  2. Provide effective day-to-day management and administration for the program;
  3. Work to meet the overall vision, goals, objectives, and foundational activities of the program aligned with the grant expectations;
  4. Help hire, train, develop, and evaluate program staff;
  5. Manage aspects of grant funding and the program budget as needed;
  6. Responsible for assuring that University policies are communicated and followed;
  7. Establish, nurture, and sustain relationships, communication, and collaboration between and among UM, GEAR UP staff, IHEs, partners, and partner schools to ensure equitable programs for students, educators, administrators, and site facilitators;
  8. Create a strong network of relationships with faculty, admissions, and various departments to facilitate the work of the GEAR UP program;
  9. Identify and implement methods for publicizing and promoting the activities of GEAR UP;
  10. Develop marketing materials about the program;
  11. Represent the program to community organizations, and other interested parties;
  12. Participate in GEAR UP sponsored meetings and training;
  13. Oversee ongoing data collection and analysis processes and reporting to evaluate the performance of the program;
  14. Establish collaborations with community-based organizations and selected school systems;
  15. Serves as the primary point of contact to all contractors and consultants;
  16. Ensures all program goals are met in the timeframe allotted, as well as preparing reports as needed.
  17. Related duties as required.

Education and Experience:
Master’s degree in Education, Instructional Leadership or related field. Doctorate’s degree preferred. Five years of related experience preferably in teaching/leadership at the secondary level. Two years of experience working with underserved, diverse populations similar to the student grant population.
