Three African Americans Appointed to Administrative Posts in Higher Education

Ashley Daniels has been named manager of marketing and digital strategy at Xavier University in New Orleans. She previously served as a marketing and communications specialist.

Daniels is a graduate of Xavier University where she majored in sales and marketing with a minor in history.

Joan Nelson has been named associate vice president for human resources at Rice University in Houton, effective this November. She currently serves as the associate vice chancellor and vice president of human resources at the University of Houston.

Nelson holds a bachelor’s degree in business and management at the University of Maryland and an MBA from the University of Houston.

Timothy F. McMullen has been appointed associate vice chancellor for facility management at Winston-Salem State University in North Carolina. He previously served as the university’s director of facilities design and construction.

McMullen holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering from North Carolina A&T State University.

In Memoriam: Norman B. Anderson, 1955-2024

Dr. Anderson was the assistant vice president for research and academic affairs at Florida State University at the time of his death. He had an extensive career in clinical psychology, which led him to become the first African American chief executive officer of the American Psychological Association.
