Description of Responsibilities: Primary duties of the Academic Planning Coordinator are to recruit and provide academic advisement to SUNY Oswego students enrolled in evening, online, part time, and Syracuse campus based undergraduate programs; provide support services to adult and non-traditional learners including those taking courses in other undergraduate degree programs; and organize and, at times, administer testing and proctoring services at the main campus. Services are provided on a flexible schedule to include planned evenings and weekends. 

The Academic Planning Coordinator will also be expected to cultivate strong relationships with students and internal partners such as faculty, department chairs, and staff across campus to provide excellent customer service and communication regarding evening, online, part time and Syracuse campus based undergraduate programs, social and academic supports for adult and non-traditional students and testing / proctoring services. Working closely with the Sr. Academic and Veterans Services Coordinator and Testing & Proctoring Coordinator to successfully accomplish efforts. Recruitment of students for academic programs by making presentations and creating print and web materials highlighting offerings. Support non-traditional students by leading and organizing events that engage students in social and academic supports, such as the Non Traditional Student Lounge and Non Traditional Student Organization. Facilitate registration, payment and appropriate access for course enrollment and student success. Prepare surveys, reports and assessments to ensure program effectiveness. 

In addition, the Academic Planning Coordinator will be expected to display a commitment to undergraduate and/or graduate education, and possess communication and interpersonal skills sufficient to work effectively with an increasingly diverse array of students and colleagues.

Required Qualifications: 

  • Master’s degree at time of application
  • 3 years professional work experience 
  • Excellent interpersonal, public speaking and written communication skills
  • Strong project management, promotion, event planning and organizational skills
  • Positive problem-solving attitude
  • Demonstrated excellence in customer service
  • Flexible schedule to include regularly scheduled periodic evening and weekend work
  • Ability to travel to Oswego and Syracuse regularly
  • Experience in building and nurturing relationships with internal and external constituencies (students, faculty, staff, general public)
  • High proficiency in MS Office, including Excel

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Master’s degree in Business Administration, Adult Learning, Higher Education or closely related field 
  • Higher Education industry work experience
  • Experience academic advising 
  • Effective past practice recruiting and serving adult and non-traditional students
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Test Administration and Proctoring

Description of Department:  The mission of the Division of Extended Learning is to expand access to the SUNY Oswego experience through the creation, delivery and support of innovative and responsive credit and non-credit programming for diverse audiences via multiple locations, modalities and services. We cultivate collaborative partnerships and provide superior customer service to ensure high quality, lifelong learning opportunities. The office coordinates offering of a variety of courses and subjects, credit bearing and non-credit bearing, for both nontraditional and traditional students at the Syracuse Branch Campus, Online, during Summer and Winter terms or at offsite locations. The Extended Learning Division is the home to the SUNY Oswego in the High Schools and Oswego County New Visions programs where eligible high school students are able to concurrently enroll in SUNY Oswego courses for college credit. Extended Learning also coordinates the offering of an “Intensive English” program each summer for students from around the world and English for Academic Purposes courses during traditional semesters. Professional development programs are available by contract, on site, or online. The Division is proud to have received numerous Veteran Friendly designations and provides services to active duty military and veterans online and face to face as a partner at the Jefferson Higher Education Center in Watertown, on Fort Drum and on main campus. We also provide services such as Testing and Proctoring, International Student Services, Non-Traditional Student Services and Room Rental at our Syracuse branch campus.
