Kmt Shockley Appointed Executive Director of the Center for African American Research and Policy

Kmt G. Shockley has been named executive director of the Center for African American Research and Policy (CAARP) in Madison, Wisconsin. The CAARP is an independent nonprofit organization that aims to engage in scholarly research in order to advance critical discourse and promote informed decisions as it pertains to policy issues confronting African Americans in both the academy and society at large.

Dr. Shockley has been serving as an associate professor of educational leadership and policy studies at Howard University in Washington, D.C. Earlier he was an associate professor of urban educational leadership in the Department of Advanced Studies, Leadership & Policy in the School of Education and Urban Studies at Morgan State University in Baltimore

His research pertains to African American children, urban education, and educational leadership. Most recently he conducted an extensive study of the Maroons in Colombia, South America, the descendants of a group of African slaves who escaped bondage and created free villages for themselves and their families.

Dr. Shockley is a board member for the Journal of Negro Education and he was the co-editor of a special issue that focused on campus uprisings in the information age. Additionally, Dr. Shockley was a founding board member for a charter school in Washington, D.C. He is also the author of The Miseducation of Black Children (African American Images, 2008).

Dr. Shockley holds a Ph.D. in organizational leadership and policy studies from the University of Maryland at College Park.
