James Madison University — Assistant / Associate Professor of Counseling – School Counseling

The Counseling Programs, housed in the Department of Graduate Psychology at James Madison University, are seeking an exceptional Counselor Educator, primarily associated with the School Counseling Program. The full-time (10 month), tenure track position will start in August, 2019, and will be filled at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. The preferred candidate will have a strong identity as a school counselor and will be qualified to contribute to and teach in all three of our graduate programs. Our award-winning programs include two CACREP accredited master’s-level programs—School Counseling and Clinical Mental Health Counseling —as well as a Ph.D. in Counseling and Supervision. Our dedicated faculty share a mission of fostering well-being for ourselves, our programs, and the students we serve.

The successful applicant will possess: a doctorate degree in Counselor Education and Supervision from a CACREP-accredited program; evidence of experience working as a school counselor; evidence of teaching experience in a graduate counseling program; and evidence of the potential to supervise and mentor students. Specific experience with school counseling practice, supervision, and teaching as well as interest in program leadership is desired. Additional expertise in assessment and substance abuse is preferred.

Responsibilities include: teaching and supervising students; maintaining current knowledge and expertise related to the profession of school counseling; contributing across programs as a committed mentor; and serving on and chairing research projects and dissertation committees. The candidate will have opportunities to be integrally involved in all the Counseling Programs, as well as opportunities for professional development and leadership roles.
