General Position Summary:
This position manages the financial activities for the JHU Whiting School of Engineering Energetics Research Group (ERG). These activities include multiple sponsored, non-sponsored, program income and discretionary accounts and will oversee the pre-award, post-award and closeout activities on all sponsored awards. Incumbent will monitor and oversee ERG's extensive research portfolio and work with researchers to locate and secure various types of funding sources for their research. In addition, they will ensure that secured funding adheres to the organization's guidelines such as proper award distribution, progress reports, and financial reports. This position supervises a currently staffed Budget Analyst and a Budget Specialist and will supervise two new Budget Analysts to be hired in early 2019. Position will report to the Executive Director of ERG at offices located in Columbia, MD.

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):

  • Bachelors degree required.
  • Five years of related experience in sponsored research and/or financial positions, preferably in US government, DOD facing, commerical or non-profit experience. Two of those years must include working in a lead or supervisory capacity with extensive supervisory responsibilities or high level, direct involvement in JHU grants and contracts leadership development training projects, serving as a recognized subject matter expert.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required. Permanent employment is contingent upon obtaining a U.S. Government personal security clearance within six months, consistent with ERG contractual and industrial security requirements.

    JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
