The Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health invites applications for the position of E.V. McCollum Professor and Chair of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. The successful applicant will have an outstanding record of academic and research accomplishment, demonstrated leadership and administrative abilities, and a compelling vision for the impact of the Department on public health. Research programs of particular interest include but are not limited to structural or cell biology, cancer biology, metabolism, genomics and the microbiome.

The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology is dedicated to the discovery and study of factors that contribute to human health and disease at the molecular, cellular and organismal levels. Its mission is to improve human health and inform public health policy and practice through research and discoveries. Research initiatives in the department are broadly focused on better understanding quality control pathways that preserve protein function and genome integrity, mechanisms and factors that contribute to reproductive health and age-related diseases including cancer and neurodegeneration.

The Department’s robust educational program offers a broad spectrum of study emphasizing molecular studies of multiprotein systems, molecular and cellular biology and biochemical nutrition, with applications to cancer, aging, neurological diseases and environmentally-based diseases. The Department has 17 full-time faculty, over 130 doctoral, master’s and postdoctoral students and a diverse research program.

The Bloomberg School of Public Health has ten departments and 680 primary faculty and more than 2,200 graduate-level students. The School is located on the Johns Hopkins University East Baltimore medical campus. Both the East Baltimore campus and the broader University present a collaborative and highly interactive environment with a superb research infrastructure.
