GLOBAL HEALTH FACULTY OPENING

The Department of Global Health (DGH) at the Boston University School of Public Health (BUSPH) has a faculty opening for a researcher with expertise in global health. We seek an exceptionally creative faculty member who is motivated to understand and improve population health globally.

The successful candidate will join DGH’s dynamic research programs in the economics and epidemiology of HIV, infectious diseases, maternal and child health, health systems, data science and access to medicines in low- and middle- income countries, and will have access to BU’s world class computing facilities and faculty expertise. DGH is comprised of 30 full and part-time faculty who are internationally recognized for their innovation in research, scholarship, and teaching. The Department collaborates with international academic colleagues in Africa, Asia, Latin America, and Central Europe.

The successful candidate will be expected to lead an independent research agenda in line with departmental priorities, actively engage in collaborative research, participate in teaching and mentoring master’s and doctoral-level students, and provide service to the department, university, and profession. Applications are welcome at the Assistant, Associate, or full Professor levels. Successful candidates at the early Assistant Professor level may be interested in joining an ongoing research team as they develop independent careers. Successful candidates with a demonstrated track record at the Associate/Full Professor level may bring a related or complementary area of expertise to the department and will be expected to conduct global health field research, publish in top journals, and securing external research funding.

Requirements at the Assistant, Associate, and full Professor levels:

  • M.D. or doctoral level degree 
  • Strong publication record, commensurate with career stage
  • Experience with primary data collection or other global health fieldwork/management
  • Ongoing partnerships with academic investigators/research organizations in locations where field work is occurring
  • Demonstrated leadership potential, resourcefulness, and intellectual creativity 
  • Demonstrated background of conceiving and leading innovative and impactful clinical or applied health systems field research projects, in a lower middle income or low income setting is preferred

Additional requirements at the Associate and full Professor levels:

  • Demonstrated track record of securing substantial external grant funding for research
  • Current appointment at the assistant professor level or higher
