Department Summary:
The mission of the Department of Art and Art History at Bridgewater State University is to engage students in the exploration and development of their individual creative interests and skills, and their art historical knowledge, analytical abilities and research experience. Our faculty strives to provide an environment in which students can investigate a full range of artistic expressions in the traditional studio and graphic arts, as well as in new technologies, within low-enrollment classes that promote a sense of community and positive learning experiences through strong student-teacher relationships.

In addition, our faculty is committed to providing a strong global understanding of art through direct experiences with artists, art works and architecture, both regionally and through study tours abroad, as well as through the teaching of studio arts, graphic design, and art history.

Essential Duties:
The Department of Art & Art History at Bridgewater State University, Bridgewater, MA is seeking a full-time, tenure track Assistant Professor to teach all levels of undergraduate and graduate Painting courses beginning in January 2019. The responsibilities of this position include significant contribution to the teaching and development of foundations program courses including Two-Dimensional Design, and all levels of Drawing and possibly Digital Design. Committee participation at both the Department and University level is expected. Faculty are also expected to engage in creative research.

Required Qualifications:
MFA in Painting or related field required.

A minimum of three years college level teaching experience beyond graduate work required.

Applicants should be ready to excel in teaching, advising and committee work on both the departmental and campus level, and to working in a multicultural environment that fosters diversity and social justice.

They should also have the ability to teach foundation studies; teach traditional and contemporary art methods; the aptitude to work collaboratively; evidence of national exhibition, publication, or scholarly activity; proven excellence in advancing students’ personal aesthetic; and a commitment to public higher education.

Applicants must submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, complete contact information for three references, artist statement, teaching philosophy, and a sample syllabus and assignment from a course relevant to position. Submission must also include a portfolio of images on CD or web link that includes 20 examples of applicant’s work and 20 examples of applicant’s student work. Examples of student work should include the foundation level as well as beginning through advanced levels of painting. All image examples must include a corresponding image list that includes date, medium, size, and student examples to also include specific course/level information.
