Department Summary:
The Department of Elementary and Early Childhood Education at Bridgewater State University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the area of Literacy Education to begin fall 2019.

Bridgewater State University, the largest of nine state universities in Massachusetts with more than 11,000 students, was founded in 1840 by Horace Mann and is the nation’s oldest stationary teacher-preparation institution. Bridgewater State University is a regional comprehensive university located in Southeastern Massachusetts.

The Department of Elementary and Early Childhood offers a variety of CAEP accredited programs including Bachelor of Science in Education programs in Elementary Education and Early Childhood Education, two Masters of Education in Reading Programs (Reading Specialist and Language, Literacy, and Culture concentrations), and a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study in Reading. The Department of Elementary and Early Childhood is committed to preparing thoughtful professional educators who are prepared to teach in the 21st century.

Essential Duties:
• Teach undergraduate and graduate reading/literacy courses
• Contribute to developing the undergraduate reading minor and graduate reading program
• Advise undergraduate and graduate students.

Required Qualifications:
• Doctorate in Reading/Literacy or curriculum development with a concentration in Reading/Literacy by September 1, 2019.
• Minimum of 2 academic years as a full-time classroom teacher in pre-K through Grade 6 in a public school setting.
• Demonstrate experience as a practicing consultant teacher of reading, reading specialist, or literacy coach.
• Experience teaching in a higher education institution in the area of literacy or in literacy curriculum leadership role.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Demonstrate a constructivist teaching philosophy
• Hold a license as a Reading Specialist/Consultant Teacher of Reading or similar license
• Experience teaching in a culturally, linguistically, and/or economically diverse setting
• Experience teaching online and/or demonstrated competency using new technologies (such as iPads and Interactive Whiteboards)
• Demonstrate an ability to work collaboratively with colleagues
• Participate in scholarly activities, including research, conference presentations, in-service workshops and/or education-related community service.
• Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and social justice.
• Minimum of 3 academic years as a full-time classroom teacher in pre-K through Grade 6 in a public elementary school.
• Minimum of 2 academic years in higher education institution as a professor of literacy or in literacy curriculum leadership role.
