Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College — Clinical Assistant Professor, K-12 Computer Science Education

The Division of Teacher Preparation in the Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College is seeking a full-time Clinical Assistant Professor with a specialization K-12 computer science education. This is a benefits-eligible academic year position beginning August 16, 2019. This is a fixed-term appointment with no tenure implications. 

The successful candidate will co-design and advance K-12 computer science education courses and teacher preparation efforts at ASU and across Arizona. Major responsibilities include: (1) teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in computer science education, teacher preparation, and other courses relevant to the candidate’s areas of expertise such as educational technology, STEM education, math education, secondary education, etc; (2) designing and developing, with colleagues, computer science education courses and programs; (3) providing leadership and partnership improvements in computer science education across the state; and (4) providing service to the institution, profession and community. This position requires a regular presence as needed to collaborate with peers on ASU campuses in the Phoenix, Arizona, metropolitan area. 

Required Qualifications: 

  • Earned doctorate in education or related field from an accredited university 
  • A record of successful university or K-12 teaching, including online or hybrid course environments 
  • Evidence of expertise in computer science education (e.g., CS curriculum development, CS teaching experience, etc.)
  • Evidence suggesting potential to assume a leadership role in computer science education (e.g., university and/or K-12 program development, policy development, teacher certification, etc.)

Desired Qualifications: 

  • A record of successful teaching at the university level in teacher preparation 
  • Experience in program/course design and development at the university or K-12 levels 
  • K-12 teaching experience in Computer Science (e.g., computational thinking, programming, robotics,
  • Fluency with basic programming language(s) 
  • Familiarity with CSTA K-12 Computer Science standards 
  • Undergraduate or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or an applied scientific discipline (e.g., Applied Mathematics, Applied Physics, etc.)
