University of Tampa — Professor of Instruction in Communication

The Department of Communication within the College of Arts and Letters at the University of Tampa seeks to hire a full-time Professor of Instruction in communication to begin August 2019. This is a non-tenure-track position with opportunities for advancement and contract renewal.

The University of Tampa is a medium-sized, comprehensive, residentially based private institution of 9,200 undergraduate and graduate students. We are looking for a communication generalist who is able to teach undergraduate courses such as Mass Media & Society, Media Writing, and Visual Literacy. The ideal candidate will also be able to teach skills courses in broadcast journalism, and we encourage applications from candidates with experience covering sports. The teaching load for this position is typically a maximum of four courses (16 credit hours) per semester.

The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence in undergraduate teaching. We welcome innovative pedagogies, and varied research agendas and traditions of scholarship.

The University of Tampa’s Communication Department houses three vibrant majors in Communication, Advertising and Public Relations, and Journalism. The communication curriculum is designed to meaningfully explore critical perspectives on media and culture as it prepares students to engage in professional production practice.

A Ph.D. in Communication or a relevant field is required. Candidates who are ABD will be considered, but all degree requirements must be completed by the beginning of the fall 2019 semester.
