Description of Responsibilities:  The Assistant Professor of Mass Communication-Media Generalist will teach a variety of courses within the Broadcasting and Mass Communication major. Courses may include introduction to mass media, history of media, media industries, which could include management, economics, law, audience research, writing for digital media platforms, or any applicable courses in the candidate’s specialty area. The Assistant Professor will also engage in online teaching, scholarly/creative activity, undergraduate advisement, departmental service, and university service.

In addition, the Assistant Professor of Mass Communication-Media Generalist will be expected to display a commitment to undergraduate education, and possess communication and interpersonal skills sufficient to work effectively with an increasingly diverse array of students and colleagues.

Required Qualifications:

  • Terminal degree in mass communication or related field is required; ABD candidates who will complete the doctorate by September 1, 2020 will also be considered. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Ability to teach writing courses, online teaching, experience in teaching a diverse population of students. 
  • The ability to incorporate issues of gender, race/ethnicity, and/or comparative global perspectives into course materials.

Description of Department: Communication Studies is the largest department in the School of Communication, Media, and the Arts, serving approximately 900 majors and minors with close to 50 full and part-time faculty members. The department offers majors in public relations, broadcasting and mass communication, communication and social interaction, and journalism. We also offer an online degree completion program in broadcasting and mass communication and a graduate certificate program in Integrated Media.
