Howard University Launches Campaign on Sexual Assault Prevention

Historically Black Howard University in Washington, D.C.,  is launching the “HU Stands” campaign to promote sexual assault prevention on campus. The year-long program, led by the Howard University Student Association in conjunction with the 1867 club, will be launched this month for National Campus Safety Awareness month.

Campaign activities will educate students and faculty on how to look for and prevent interpersonal violence, what resources are available to victims, how the Title IX coordinators at Howard University handle cases, and ways the campus community can engage and “take a stand” against sexual assault.

The campaign urges students to take a pledge to:

  • Understand what Interpersonal Violence is and how it affects me and my campus community
  • Model consent and respect it by holding others and myself accountable
  • Commit to ending sexual assault and other forms of interpersonal violence within the University community
  • Support student survivors and their decisions
  • Foster a campus community where sexual assault and interpersonal violence are unacceptable

More information on the campaign can be found on the “HU Stands” website.
