Basic Function:

California Lutheran University invites applicants for a (tenure track Assistant Professor of Film & TV) beginning in the fall of 2018. Our campus has recently become a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) and we are looking for candidates with a demonstrated commitment to and success working in diverse, multi-cultural, and multi-racial communities. The interdisciplinary Film major will be divided into three emphasis areas: the general major, the film production concentration, and film studies. The general film emphasis allows students to choose their film courses based on their interest in the film/television industry; the production major focuses on learning the job skills involved in the creation of film and television projects; and the film studies emphasize focuses on the history, theory, and criticism of films and television broadcasts.

Preference will be given to candidates who hold an M.F.A. in film/television production along with experience in the film or television industry. The successful candidate will be expected to teach at least two production courses and an introduction to film studies course. Experience with Avid Media Composer and Adobe Premiere and After Effects is preferred. We are especially interested in candidates who can demonstrate experience and/or motivation in teaching and mentoring under-represented and first-generation students, and who can demonstrate a strong commitment to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through their research, teaching, and service. Representative Duties:
• Provide academic instruction to students through lecture, lab, and performance courses. Create assignments and activities in one-on-one, classroom, and distance mediated instructional settings for development of cognitive abilities, communication skills, and higher order thinking skills among students. E
• Observe and evaluate student performance in meeting course objectives and student learning outcomes through assignments, projects, discussions, and examinations; provide feedback in a timely manner to student inquiries in class, online, or during established consultation office hours. E
• Maintain current, accurate records of course enrollment, attendance, student academic progress, course curriculum; prepare and submit grades, data, and reports related to course and student progress in a timely manner. E
• Provide a course syllabus to students in each class within the first week of the class, as outlined in the faculty handbook. E
• Adhere to the responsibilities related to teaching, advising, service, and scholarly, professional and creative activities, as outlined in the faculty handbook. E
• Attend and participate on committees and in department, division, campus, and University meetings. E
• Performs related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
M.F.A. in film/television production

Preferred Qualifications:
-Experience in the film or television industry
-Experience with Avid Media Composer and Adobe Premiere and After Effects
-We are especially interested in candidates who have expertise in working with students of color and can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through their research, teaching, service.

Physical Abilities:
Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to operate office equipment; lift and carry heavy objects up to 50lbs; bend at the waist; reach above the shoulder, overhead and horizontally; crawl; push and pull equipment; climb ladders and stairs.
