University of Pennsylvania — Faculty Positions, Environmental Epidemiology

The Department of Biostatistics and Epidemiology at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for several faculty positions in either the non-tenure clinician-educator track or the tenure track. The successful applicant will have experience in the field of environmental epidemiology. Responsibilities include participation in Penn’s Center for Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics (CCEB) and Center of Excellence in Environmental Toxicology (CEET) training programs, teaching and patient care activities in the faculty member’s clinical specialty (if relevant), and development of a research program. Tenure track applicants are expected to have a nationally recognized extramurally funded research program and lead environmental epidemiology initiatives within CEET. Applicants must have an M.D. or Ph.D degree and have demonstrated excellent qualifications in education and research.

Applicants should have a research program that links the use of exposure science (exposure assessment, biosensors, biomarkers, geographic information systems, cartographic tools) with diseases of environmental etiology (e.g., cancer subtypes, lung and airway disease, metabolic diseases, or developmental basis of adult-disease etc.) Expertise in the epidemiological design of retrospective and prospective studies and the analysis of large data sets is desirable.

Applicants for the Junior Faculty position are expected to have several years of postdoctoral epidemiological research experience. The applicant must have a disease focus or must be developing new methods for epidemiological studies, and should preferably have grant funding (K-award or equivalent).

Applicants for the Senior Faculty position are expected to have a nationally recognized extramurally funded research program and lead environmental epidemiology initiatives within CEET. Significant resources will be made available for this leadership position.

Clinician Educator track faculty will typically be focused on collaborative research as co-investigators. Tenure track faculty will be principal investigators of extramurally funded research projects.

The primary faculty appointment will be in the Department of Biostatistics, Epidemiology and Informatics, or other School of Medicine department, as appropriate. Applicants will also have appointments in Penn’s Environmental Health Sciences Center, CEET, and CCEB, and also as appropriate with the Population Sciences Program of the Abramson Cancer Center and the Institute for Bioinformatics (IBI).

Applicants should submit their curriculum vitae, names of three references and a description of their current or future research program.

We seek candidates who embrace and reflect diversity in the broadest sense.
