New Administrative Positions for Six African Americans in Higher Education

Regina D. Biddings-Muro was appointed vice president for university advancement at California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks. She was vice chancellor of institutional advancement at Purdue University Northwest in Indiana.

Dr. Biddings-Muro holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism and mass communication and a master’s degree in communication from Purdue University. She earned a doctorate in higher education and organizational change at Benedictine University in Lisle, Illinois.

Shakeer Abdullah is the new vice president of student affairs at Clayton State University in Morrow, Georgia. He was assistant vice president for equity and diversity at the University of Minnesota. Earlier, he served as director of the Multicultural Center at Auburn University in Alabama.

Dr. Abdullah is a graduate of Wittenburg University in Ohio, where he majored in management. He holds a master’s degree in higher education student affairs from Ohio State University and a doctorate in higher education administration from Auburn University.

Patrick Moore was appointed director of bands at South Carolina State University in Orangeburg. He was an instructor in music and director of bands and instrumental studies at Houston Baptist University.

Moore is a graduate of the University of Arkansas, where he majored in music education. He holds a master’s degree in music performance from Texas Tech University and is working on an educational doctorate at Abilene Christian University in Texas.

James E. Page Jr. was named vice chancellor for equity, diversity, and inclusion at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. He will also hold the title of chief diversity officer. Page was vice president and chief diversity officer for the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore.

Page is a graduate of Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, where he majored in computer technology. He earned an MBA at the University of Texas at Austin.

Jason Brooks was selected to be the next director of the Martin Luther King Center on the campus of the University of Kentucky. He has been serving as assistant dean of students for diversity, equity and inclusion at Emporia State University in Kansas.

Brooks holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music performance from Emporia State University. He earned a doctorate in higher education administration from Baker University in Baldwin City, Kansas.

Kevin Granger is the new interim director of athletics at Texas Southern University in Houston. He joined the staff at the university in 2008 as athletics operations manager.

Granger is a graduate of Texas Southern University, where he majored in business and was a star on the university’s basketball team.
