Four African Americans Appointed to Administrative Posts at Colleges and Universities

Wayne Knox was promoted to vice president and chief operating officer at Huston-Tillotson University in Austin, Texas. He had been serving as chief of staff and clerk of the board at the university. He has been on the staff at the university since 2015. Earlier, he held executive positions at Chicago City Colleges and Central State University in Wilberforce, Ohio.

Knox is a magna cum laude graduate of Central State University, where he majored in finance. He holds a master of public administration degree from DePaul University in Chicago.

Adrianne Johnson-Williams was appointed special assistant to the president for strategy and planning at LeMoyne-Owen College in Memphis. She was a program officer at the Pyramid Peak Foundation.

Dr. Johnson-Williams is a graduate of Wellesley College in Massachusetts, where she double majored in economics and French. She holds a master’s degree in secondary education from George Washington University in Washington, D.C., and a Ph.D. in educational policy studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Jacqueline Y. Powers was appointed interim associate vice provost for enrollment management at North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro. She has been serving as director of orientation and new student programs at the university.

Powers is a graduate of North Carolina A&T State University, where she majored in speech communications. She holds a master’s degree in leadership management from Amridge University in Montgomery, Alabama.

Johnny C. Whitehead was named interim director of the department of public safety at Lincoln University in Pennsylvania. He is the former chief of police and director of public safety at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Earlier, he served on the police force in Baltimore for 20 years.

Whitehead is a graduate of the University of Baltimore, where he majored in political science. He earned a master’s degree in applied behavioral science from Johns Hopkins University.
