A Trio of African American Scholars Appointed to Positions as Deans at Universities

Michelle Ferrier was named dean of the School of Journalism & Graphic Communication at Florida A&M University in Tallahassee. She will begin her new role on October 1. She has been serving as an associate professor at the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University.

Dr. Ferrier is a graduate of the University of Maryland, College Park, where she majored in journalism. She holds a master’s degree in journalism from the University of Memphis and a Ph.D. in texts and technologies from the University of Central Florida in Orlando.

David S. Hood was named the founding dean of University College at Montclair State University in New Jersey. He will also serve as associate provost for undergraduate education. He has been serving as dean of University College at North Carolina Central University in Durham.

Dr. Hood is a graduate of Alabama A&M University. He holds a master’s degree and a doctorate in higher education administration from Tennessee State University.

Pamela Holland Obiomon, a professor of electrical and microelectronic engineering at Prairie View A&M University in Texas, was named dean of the Roy G. Perry College of Engineering at the university. Dr. Obiomon has been on the faculty at Prairie View A&M University since 2003 and served as department chair since 2013. Earlier, she taught at the Rochester Institute of Technology in New York.

Professor Obiomon holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Texas at Arlington. She earned a master’s degree in engineering from Prairie View A&M University and a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Texas A&M University.
