Ten African Americans Who Have Been Named to Administrative Posts in Higher Education

Keisha L. Pope was named director of financial aid at Virginia Union University in Richmond. She is the former director of financial aid at Reynolds Community College in Richmond.

Pope is a graduate of Virginia State University, where she majored in public administration. She earned a master of public administration degree at Virginia Commonwealth University.

Myron S. McCoo is the new vice president for human resources and chief diversity officer at the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, Minnesota. He was vice president for human resources at University of Cincinnati Health.

McCoo is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, where he majored in government. He holds a master’s degree in theological studies from Harvard University and a juris doctorate from Indiana University.

Bobby Brown was appointed an Equal Opportunity/Title IX investigator at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He was a compliance investigator and deputy Title IX coordinator at Kent State University in Ohio.

Brown holds a master of public administration degree and Albany State University in Georgia and a juris doctorate from Cleveland State University in Ohio.

Willie Benson was named chief information officer for the Center for Information Technology Services at Alcorn State University in Mississippi. He was a project manager for the Mississippi Department of Human Services.

Dr. Benson  holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science and a doctorate in higher education from Jackson State University in Mississippi. He also earned a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in information technology project management from American Intercontinental University.

Anthony Holloman, vice president for advancement at Fort Valley State University, will assume the additional role of interim athletics director. He is the former athletics director at Tuskegee University in Alabama.

Holloman earned a bachelor’s degree in communication and media studies from Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, North Carolina, and a master’s degree in sports studies from the United States Sports Academy.

Joy Haywood Moore has been named interim vice president for student affairs at Boston College. She has been serving as associate vice president for alumni relations at the college. She joined the Advancement Office at the college in 2011.

Moore is a 1981 graduate of Boston College. She is the former deputy director of the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls in South Africa.

Brian Hayes was appointed vice chancellor for student affairs at the University of California, Riverside. He has been serving as vice president for student affairs at California State University, San Bernardino.

Dr. Hayes is a graduate of Ohio State University, where he majored in history. He holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in college student personnel from Ohio University.

Mary Grimes-McGreer was named associate provost and associate vice president for academic affairs at Savannah State University in Georgia. She was dean and director of the Greenville, South Carolina, campus of Webster University.

Dr. Grimes-McGreer holds a bachelor of fine arts degree in professional theater from North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro. She holds a master of fine arts degree in musical theater from Alliant University and a doctorate in higher education administration from the University of South Carolina.

Philip Walker was appointed director of the Annette and Irwin Eskind Biomedical Library at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. He has been on the staff at the library since 2012.

Walker is a graduate of Southern University in New Orleans, where he majored in history. He holds a master’s degree in health informatics from the University of Missouri and a master of library and information science degree from Louisiana State University.

Yolanda M. King is the new assistant dean for diversity at Ursuline College in Pepper Pike, Ohio. She was director of residence life and learning at Tufts University in Massachusetts. Earlier, she was associate director of residence life at Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Massachusetts.

King is a graduate of the College of Wooster in Ohio, where she majored in English. She holds a master degree in higher education student development from Howard University in Washington, D.C.
