Miami University seeks a dynamic individual to serve as Associate Director of Recruitment and provide the primary direction and oversight for the Office of Admission regarding its domestic first-year recruitment efforts.  A critical role in ensuring the continued success of the Office of Admission in its quest to recruit the brightest, best, and most diverse students from the state of Ohio, across the US, and around the globe, the position will have responsibility for all aspects of territory and prospect management, analyzing institutional data to assign recruitment territories, assessing key metrics to measure effectiveness of current and future recruitment practices and priorities, including all domestic first-year marketing and communication efforts, and maintaining and cultivating relationships with key external constituents including high school counselors and University alumni and friends. 

The Associate Director will provide leadership and direction on all aspects of territory management and travel planning, ensuring that overall strategies and efforts align with and support the larger strategic vision, plans, and goals of the Offices of Admission and the Strategic Enrollment Management and Marketing (SEMM) unit. The position will be responsible for directing and evaluating recruitment strategies, including domestic travel, off-campus programming, and aligned communication efforts, and will provide ongoing assessment, management, and recommendation regarding all first-year domestic strategies for senior admission and SEMM leadership. 

The Associate Director will develop strategies for enhancing relationships with high school counselors and other key external stakeholders, including alumni and MUCORP volunteers, and will represent the Office of Admission to these critical external audiences. This position will assess and gauge and current relationships with these key constituents and seek ways to enhance them further by identifying and creating opportunities and programming aimed at building and strengthening relationships with critical partners and influencers in an effort to support the overall recruitment and yield strategies of the University.

In collaboration with the Senior Associate Director and other readership, the Associate Director will direct and ensure the effective and continual utilization of data in determining and assessing overall recruitment strategies. This position will also develop and oversee training and professional development for admission staff to ensure knowledge, understanding, and application of industry-leading best practices and emerging trends in the field of student recruitment.  The position includes responsibility for a geographic recruitment market and other general admission counseling duties such as application review, admission presentations, and admission special events.

Duties/Physical Demands: 

  • Provide direction and oversight for the Office of Admission staff regarding domestic first-year recruitment efforts, including management of all functional and organizational aspects of short- and long-term recruitment strategies and planning. In collaboration with admission leadership, develop focused, integrated, and data-driven recruitment plans which align with the University’s ambitious goals.
  • Manage and ensure the training of admission staff as it relates to the effective and regular utilization of data and industry-leading best practices and emerging trends in the field of student recruitment, territory and prospect management, and relationship cultivation. Maintain and provide thorough reporting as it relates to Admission’s recruitment and travel efforts and provide ongoing assessment, management, and recommendation regarding all first-year domestic strategies.
  • Serve as the lead with the Enrollment Marketing and Communication regarding first-year domestic communication and marketing strategies; provide insight, direction, and feedback and ensure the alignment of all enrollment marketing and communication efforts with the broad recruitment and yield strategies for first-year domestic enrollment.  In collaboration with partners in Enrollment Marketing and Communication, this position will consistently assess and evaluate first-year domestic communication strategies and efforts with the overall goal of inserting institutional brand pillars and key messages in all aspect of Miami’s recruitment strategies and with the continued goal of broadening the national reputation of the institution and its brand. 
  • Develop and lead the assessment, ongoing use, and implementation of strategies for enhancing relationships with high school counselors, alumni, and other key external stakeholders and influencers.  In collaboration with the admission office, alumni office, and other campus constituents, seek ways to continue to utilize and cultivate relationships with counselors, alumni and others to effectively engage and leverage them as part of the University’s broader recruitment and yield strategies.  Provide leadership and direction for on- and off-campus events focused on building and strengthening relationships with alumni, high school counselors and other key constituents and supporting the overall recruitment and yield strategies of the office. 
  • Manage the National Pathways Program and other academic and strategic initiatives aimed at ensuring the Office of Admission meets its ambitious annual enrollment goals.  Partner with faculty and staff across the University community to ensure the timely, effective, and innovative delivery of these programs and initiatives and provide strategic insights and direction to University partners as it relates to these and other overarching recruitment efforts. 
  • Conduct 4-6 weeks of recruitment travel, admission application review, prospective student information sessions and other presentations, and counselor on duty responsibilities; serve as a member of the SEMM Extended Leadership Team.  Other duties as assigned. 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree with experience in higher education, recruitment, or marketing, and 3-5 years minimum experience working in an educational or corporate environment; Master’s degree will be considered in lieu of experience.
  • Candidate will be politically savvy and diplomatic, with a proven track record of maintaining and cultivating relationships with key internal and external constituents.
  • Must possess exceptional written and oral communication skills, group presentation skills, and a proven ability to work with diverse constituencies; candidate must demonstrate expertise and/or experience with marketing or communication efforts.
  • Must be able to work independently and handle multiple tasks simultaneously; must be able to perform overnight travel and possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with computer systems and various software applications.
