Five African Americans Appointed to New Administrative Posts at Colleges and Universities

Greg Hunley was appointed director of human resources at Mississippi University for Women in Columbus. He was personnel director for the Columbus Municipal School District. Hunley has also served as diversity research and assessment specialist for Mississippi State University.

Hunley holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a master’s degree in higher education administration from the University of Mississippi.

Janet Wormack was named vice chancellor of finance and administration at Houston Community College in Texas. She has been serving as senior vice president for administrative and fiscal services at Montgomery College in Rockville, Maryland. She will begin her new job on September 1.

Dr. Wormack is a graduate of Arizona State University, where she majored in business administration. She holds a master’s degree in administrative management from Bowie State University in Maryland and a doctorate in community college leadership from Morgan State University in Baltimore.

Tommye Sutton was named assistant vice president and chief of police at the University of Virginia. He was deputy chief of police at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. Earlier he served on the police force at the University of Chicago and Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee.

Sutton is a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi, where he majored in English. He holds a master’s degree in criminal justice from Tennessee State University and is studying for a Ph.D. in higher education leadership from Concordia University-Chicago.

Sheriah Dixon was named an equal opportunity and Title IX investigator in the Office of Equal Opportunity, Inclusion, and Resolution Services at Syracuse University in New York. She has been serving as the acting director of the Office of Residence Life and Student Conduct at Onondaga Community College in Syracuse.

Dixon is a graduate of the State University of New York at Canton, where she majored in criminal investigation. She holds a master’s degree in social work from Syracuse University.

Crystal L. Wheeler was appointed chief people officer at Howard University Hospital in Washington, D.C. In this role she will manage the hospital’s human resources functions. She was director of human resources for General Dynamics Information Technology in Fairfax, Virginia.

Wheeler is a graduate of North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro, where she majored in marketing. She holds a master’s degree in business and industry training from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia.
