Founded in 1927, the University of Houston (UH) is the flagship institution of the University of Houston System. With over 45,000 students, it is the third-largest university in Texas. Reporting to the Associate Vice President/Associate Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Services, the University Registrar provides leadership and oversight to all aspects of the Office of the University Registrar in directing the maintenance and integrity of all enrollment, graduation, and permanent academic records of university students following professional guidelines and assuring compliance with university, state and federal requirements, rules, policies and legislation. In addition, the University Registrar provides leadership for operational, financial, personnel, and policy activities for the Office of University Registrar; recruits, hires, trains, evaluates and manage department staff; generates, initiates, and implements plans and project design to support the goals of the institution; develops and administers complex budgets supporting staff and department operations; and, serves as signatory officer for student records verifications for a variety of external entities such as the NCAA and Veteran’s Administration. The University Registrar serves as a key contributor, thought leader, visionary, and steward for the design of processes, implementation of related technology, and operational support for the various university systems that support student services, as well as degree awarding, faculty grading, and room scheduling. The University Registrar must have the ability to evaluate and assess systems, facilitate change processes, and possess a vision for strengthening service through the integration of best practices and ongoing investment in staff development. The University of Houston is a PeopleSoft institution. 

The successful candidate will hold a master’s degree with a minimum of seven years of direct job-related experience. In addition, the University Registrar must have the ability to provide leadership for and supervise a large and complex office operation, while possessing extensive knowledge of computer systems and information technology in a large, complex university setting. Additionally, the University Registrar will work to improve systems and delivery of services; demonstrate experience in the development and implementation of academic programs and/or policies in collaboration with a variety of campus partners and stakeholders; maintain a strong, working knowledge of FERPA; exhibit excellent interpersonal and communication skills; and demonstrate accomplishments on major projects requiring innovation and creative thinking. The University Registrar must be comfortable leading change and possess the organizational, problem-solving, and interpersonal communication skills to build consensus and advance both projects and policies in a dynamic academic institution.
