New Duties for Two Black Male Scholars at Southern Flagship State Universities

Gregory B. Fairchild, the Isidore Horween Research Associate Professor of Business Administration in the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia, was given the added duties as the inaugural director of Northern Virginia operations for the university.

Dr. Fairchild joined the faculty at the University of Virginia in 2001. He is a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, where he majored in mass communication. Dr. Fairchild earned an MBA at the University of Virginia and a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in management of organizations at Columbia University.

George Dor, professor of music and the holder of the McDonnell-Barksdale Chair of Ethnomusicology at the University of Mississippi was named director of the university new master’s degree program in ethnomusicology. Professor Dor is the author of West African Drumming and Dance in North American Universities: An Ethnomusicological Perspective (University of Mississippi Press, 2014).

Professor Dor is a graduate of the Ghana National Academy of Music. He holds a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in music from the University of Ghana and a Ph.D. in ethnomusicology from the University of Pittsburgh.
