New Administrative Posts for 13 African Americans in Higher Education

Sheraine Gilliam-Holmes was named executive director and chief human resources officer at Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Tennessee. She has been serving as director of human resource systems and operations for the City University of New York.

Gilliam-Holmes is a graduate of Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York, where she majored in international business. She earned an MBA from the University of Phoenix.

Archie Bouie was appointed vice president of finance and administration at Florida A&M University. He is the founder and CEO of The Patrick Cook Group, a performance enhancement firm. Bouie is the former CEO of the Fairburn and Stone Mountain campuses of Georgia Military College.

Bouie is a graduate of the University of Phoenix and earned a master’s degree in the leadership of educational organizations from American Intercontinental University in Hoffman Estates, Illinois.

Yvette Leverett was promoted to director of University Testing Services at the University of Georgia. She had been serving as associate director and has worked in this division since 2008.

Leverett earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology from the University of South Florida in Tampa, and a master’s degree in sociology from Atlanta University.

Roz Bradshaw-Robinson was promoted to project manager and research administrator in the Office of Medical Student Research at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. She joined the staff at the university in 2011.

Bradshaw-Robinson is a graduate of Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville, where she majored in business administration. She holds a master’s degree in management and leadership from Webster University in Missouri.

Natasha Saunders was appointed director of the Student Opportunity and Achievement Resources (SOAR) program at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. She joined the university a year ago as director of student recruitment for the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.

Saunders is a graduate of North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro, where she majored in family consumer sciences. She holds a master’s degree in human and environmental sciences from the University of Kentucky.

Timothy L. Hopkins was named development officer at Mississippi University for Women. He had been serving as a senior admissions counselor at the university.

Hopkins is graduate of Mississippi University for Women, where he majored in psychology. He holds a master’s degree in psychology and counseling from the University of West Alabama.

Danisha Williams was promoted to director of admissions at Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee. She was assistant dean of admissions. Dr. Williams joined the staff at Fisk University in 2010 as an academic adviser.

Dr. Williams is a graduate of Fisk University, where she majored in sociology. She holds a master of  public administration degree from Southern Illinois University and an educational doctorate from Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville.

Lori D. Barcliff Baptista has been appointed associate dean for undergraduate programs and advising in the School of Communications at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. She was the director of the African American Cultural Center at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Dr. Baptista is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley. She earned a master’s degree in liberal studies at Rutgers University and a Ph.D. in performance studies at Northwestern University.

Tracey A. Reeves will be the next assistant vice president for news and campus communications at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta. She has been serving as director of media relations at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.

Before joining the academic world, Reeves was a reporter and editor for the Washington Post and the Providence Journal. She holds a bachelor’s degree in mass communications and journalism from Illinois State University.

Debra F. Williams was appointed associate vice president and chief human resources officer at Wayne State University in Detroit. She was executive vice president for Right Management, a global talent firm, in Southfield, Michigan.

Williams is a graduate of Wayne State University, where she majored in journalism. She earned an MBA at Lawrence Technological University in Southfield, Michigan.

Jennifer Horace is a new Title IX/equal opportunity investigator at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She was a student affairs officer at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana.

Dr. Horace is a graduate of the University of Illinois, where she majored in speech communication and rhetoric. She holds a master’s degree in higher education student affairs from Indiana University and a doctorate in higher education leadership from Clemson University in South Carolina.

Erika Dawson-Head was appointed co-director of diversity for the College of Information and Computer Science at the University of Massachusetts. She will lead the college’s outreach efforts in an effort to increase student, faculty, and staff diversity. She has been serving as diversity and employee engagement coordinator for the University of St. Joseph in West Hartford, Connecticut.

Dawson-Head is a graduate of Central Connecticut State University, where she majored in political science and sociology. She holds a master’s degree in counseling.

B. Sherrance Russell is the new vice president for student affairs and enrollment management at Central State University in Wilberforce, Ohio. He had been serving as senior residence life officer at Prairie View A&M University in Texas.

Dr. Russell is a graduate of Texas Southern University, where he majored in business administration. He holds a master’s degree in urban education and is a graduate of the urban higher education executive Ph.D. program at Jackson State University.

  1. VP for Finance and Administration at FAMU graduated from online, for-profit universities. I don’t know if this bodes well for our alma mater, and I find it embarrassing.

    • He also holds a CFP from The Florida State University. Completed the Certified Fundraising Program at Boston University and The Graduate Banking Program of the South at LSU. Mr. Bouie has had a very decorated career in banking, communications, and now higher education. He is an entrepreneur and public speaker, plus has developed and managed budgets as large as $400 million. What’s the issue?
