The Associate Director is a member of The Office of Diversity Affairs within the Division of Student Life. The Associate Director reports to the Director of the Office of Diversity Affairs and works with colleagues and stakeholders in creating an inclusive environment for all students. Specifically, the Associate Director is responsible for working with diverse, racial, and ethnic students. The Associate Director is also responsible for supporting and enhancing the Miami community through advocacy and education.  

Duties/Physical Demands:  

  • Directly supervise 1 full time staff member (Assistant Director of Diverse Student Development).
  • Directly supervise 2-4 undergraduate student intern and coordinate the department student intern selection and training.
  • Assist the Director in the supervision, training and development of professional staff members to be successful in their role.
  • Implement divisional diversity initiatives for academic units and Division of Student Life
  • Assist with Departmental communications and KPI tracking including the department website, and social media sites.
  • Responsible for internal assessment of programming and initiatives, coordination and management of departmental assessment and strategic development plans, and creation of student learning assessment mediums. Assist in supporting and establishing annual and long-range department goals.
  • Take a leading role on campus in creating an environment that is inclusive and welcoming to all students, and actively participate in leadership and planning discussions about improving campus culture and climate for diverse students at Miami
  • Lead and implement programs to increase involvement of diverse student populations primarily targeting racial/ethnic marginalized and minoritized students and design programs that collaborate with the Women*s Center & LBGTQ+ Center as well as other campus partners.
  • Develop and implement programming that increases dialogue about diversity and inclusion across campus.
  • Plan and manage Miami University Multicultural Traveling Leadership Program-a diversity education program for Latinx, Black/African American, and Asian/Asian American  students to attend leadership conferences such as USHLI, MASSU, Big 12 Black Student Gov’t and others. 
  • Plan and manage the Horizon Celebration graduation ceremony.
  • Manage and Develop the RAPP@Miami Racial Reconciliation Dialogue program
  • Serve as advisor for the WISE Immersion & Service Trip in conjunction with the WILKS Leadership Institute, OCES, & Oxford Hillel
  • Co-Instruct the EDL 141 Mentoring Diverse Students class.
  • Serve in place of Director when needed

Minimum Qualifications:  

  • Master’s Degree in Student Affairs Administration, Higher Education, College Personnel, Counseling, or related field.
  • Three to Five years full-time working experience in Multicultural/Diversity Affairs, Leadership/Student Development, Student Activities in university setting required
  • Demonstrated track record of a commitment to diversity.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends.
  • Light lifting of boxes within the office may occur.
