Lucian Yates III to Serve as Provost at Kentucky State University

Lucian Yates III has been appointed interim provost and vice president for academic affairs at Kentucky State University in Frankfort. He has been serving as dean of the Graduate School and professor of curriculum and instruction at Tennessee State University in Nashville.

Dr. Yates led the School of Education at Kentucky State University from 2004 to 2008. From 2008 to 2016, he was a professor of educational leadership and dean of the Graduate School at Prairie View A&M University.

M. Christopher Brown II, president of Kentucky State University, stated that “Dr. Yates’ return to Kentucky State University is the crowning achievement in a stellar educational career. His outstanding record of accomplishments in education, on every level, is unmatched.”

In accepting his new assignment, Dr. Yates said “I am elated to be joining Kentucky State University at this exciting time in its history. My new role provides an opportunity to work with talented faculty, staff and students. I also feel fortunate to work with advancing the vision of President Brown who understands the connection between student support and outcomes to academic success.”

Dr. Yates holds a bachelor’s degree in history and political science and a master’s degree in history and education from Morehead State University in Kentucky. He earned a Ph.D. in curriculum, instruction, and supervision at Ohio University.
