Carleton College — Assistant Professor of Physics

Carleton College’s Department of Physics and Astronomy invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level, to start September 1, 2019. We seek someone with a Ph.D. and with a strong commitment to teaching undergraduates in a liberal arts environment. A successful candidate will contribute imaginatively to our experimental physics curriculum and will create and maintain a program of active scholarship involving undergraduates; start-up funds will be provided. Any area of research is welcome and we particularly encourage those with an experimental research program that could foster connections with the other sciences and engineering. Carleton is in the process of completing an interdisciplinary science building project to encourage such interactions, including new instructional and research spaces for physics, as well as a shared ‘maker space’.

Carleton College is a highly selective liberal arts college with about 2000 undergraduates; over the last decade we have graduated 12 – 27 majors annually, of whom one-quarter are women.
