Miles College Partners With the University of Alabama at Birmingham

Miles College, the historically Black educational institution in Fairfield, Alabama, has entered into a partnership agreement with the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Under the agreement, students in undergraduate programs in computer and information sciences or management information systems at Miles College can be accepted into an accelerated master’s degree program in health informatics.

To qualify for application to the accelerated master’s degree program, Miles College students must be in their sophomore year with a 3.5 GPA or better. Students will begin UAB coursework the summer before their senior year with UAB and Miles College courses overlapping during the senior year. This will enable students to earn their bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in health informatics in five years.

Emmanuel Chekwa, dean and vice president of academic affairs at Miles College, stated that “the collaboration with UAB, an esteemed research institution, is a giant step forward for our highly motivated students who have a passion for improving health care through the application of data science and information technology.”

This is the first time the University of Alabama at Birmingham has entered into an accelerated master’s degree program with a historically Black college or university.
