Larry Johnson Appointed President of Phoenix College in Arizona

The Maricopa County Community College District in Arizona has selected Larry Johnson to be the next president of Phoenix College. The college enrolls more than 11,500 students according to the latest data supplied to the U.S. Department of Education. African Americans make up 9 percent of the student body.

Dr. Johnson has been serving as provost and chief academic officer at the Forest Park campus of St. Louis Community College. Prior to working in his recent post, Dr. Johnson served as associate dean for academic affairs at Broward College-South Campus in Pembroke Pines, Florida. Earlier, he taught at Georgia Piedmont Technical College.

Dr. Johnson is a graduate of Florida A&M University, where he majored in English literature. He holds a master’s degree in Medieval to Baroque Studies from Florida State University and a Ph.D. in English literature from Clark Atlanta University.
