Two Long-Time Faculty Members Are Retiring From Elizabeth City State University

Elizabeth City State University in North Carolina has announced the retirements of two long-time faculty members.

Linda Hayden was named professor emerita. She has been on the faculty at the university for 38 years and has served as director of the university’s Center of Excellence in Remote Sensing Education and Research. Early in her career, she taught at Kentucky State University and Norfolk State University. Professor Hayden is a graduate of Virginia State University. She holds master’s degrees from the University of Cincinnati and Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia, and a Ph.D. in mathematics education from American University in Washington, D.C.

Claudie Mackey was named professor emeritus of education and psychology. He joined the faculty at the university in 1977. In addition to his duties as a faculty member, Dr. Mackey has served as associate vice chancellor of academic affair/external relations, interim dean of the School of Education and Psychology, interim athletic director, head basketball coach, and head track coach. Dr. Mackey is an alumnus of Elizabeth City State University. He earned a master’s degree in education from Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York and an educational doctorate from Virginia Tech.
