A. Zachary Faison Jr. Named the 30th President of Edward Waters College in Jacksonville, Florida

The board of trustees of Edward Waters College in Jacksonville, Florida, has named A. Zachary Faison Jr. as the 30th president of the historically Black educational institution. When he takes office, Dr. Faison – at the age of 37 – will become the youngest president of an HBCU in the nation, according to the college.

According to the latest data filed with the U.S. Department of Education, Edward Waters College enrolls slightly more than 3,000 undergraduate students. African Americans make up 57 percent of the student body.

Dr. Faison currently serves as general counsel and vice president for external affairs at Tuskegee University in Alabama. Earlier, he was vice president for enrollment management and student affairs at Virginia Union University in Richmond.

Dr. Faison is a magna cum laude graduate of Albany State University in Georgia, where he majored in English. He earned a juris doctorate at the University of Georgia School of Law.
