Low Brass/Music History or Instrumental Music Education

Position: Assistant Professor, Tenure line position, Nine-month Appointment

Responsibilities: The University of Wisconsin – Platteville Performing and Visual Arts Department seeks a tenure-track assistant professor of Low Brass and either Music History or Instrumental Music Education beginning in the Fall, 2018. The successful candidate will be responsible for:

a) Building and maintaining the low brass studio (trombone, euphonium, tuba), also to include teaching Low Brass Techniques; and either
b) Teaching the Music History sequence including a World Music Survey course as well as coordinating Music Appreciation and other general education courses; or
c) Overseeing the Instrumental Music Education curriculum, including teaching instrumental methods courses and supervising student teachers.

The successful applicant will be expected to advise undergraduate music majors, demonstrate ongoing artist-level performance on the primary instrument, and maintain an active and musically diverse career inside and outside of the classroom. The candidate will have to show significant success in recruitment of music majors and minors.

Qualifications: Doctorate in music or ABD required. Completion of a doctorate is required before consideration of tenure. The candidate must provide evidence of excellent classroom teaching and of continuing artist-level activity as a performer. The candidate must have demonstrated commitment to or experience with racially diverse populations.

Preferred: Candidates having 2 years of experience teaching at the collegiate level; excellent communication skills. Evidence of proven recruiting success will also be considered.
