On two occasions, racist graffiti was founded written on the wall in a bathroom at a residence hall at Kettering University in Flint, Michigan. The graffiti targeted African American students.

Robert McMahan, who returned early from a trip to Asia due to the incident, stated that the acts of graffiti were “abhorrent to me and to us as a community and they run counter to our values and the very fiber of our being as an institution.. Words and actions such as these have no place at our university, nor do those who would perpetrate such an act.”

Kettering University enrolls about 1,900 undergraduate students and more than 400 graduate students, according to the latest data filed with the U.S. Department of Education. African Americans make up 3 percent of the undergraduate student body.
