New Duties for Two African American Male Psychology Scholars

Aashir Nasim, a professor with a joint appointment in the departments of psychology and African American studies at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, has been given the added duties as vice president for inclusive excellence. He has been serving as interim senior vice provost for faculty affairs. Dr. Nasim will continue in his role as director of the Institute for Inclusion, Inquiry & Innovation.

Dr. Nisam joined the faculty at Virginia Commonwealth University in 2008. He is a graduate of Augusta University in Georgia, where he majored in psychology and biology. Professor Nasim earned a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in psychology at Howard University in Washington, D.C.

Zollie Stevenson an associate professor of psychology and associate professor of education at Philander Smith College in Little Rock, Arkansas, was appointed vice president for academic affairs and chief academic officer. Prior to joining the faculty at Philander Smith College, Dr. Stevenson was an associate professor in the department of educational leadership and policy studies at Howard University.

Dr. Stevenson is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Asheville. He earned a master’s degree in education counseling at North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro, and a Ph.D. in educational psychology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
