Columbia College Chicago — Chief Information Officer

Columbia College Chicago (“Columbia”) seeks an accomplished, visionary, and energetic leader to serve as its Chief Information Officer (CIO). As a member of the senior leadership of the institution, the CIO will report to the Chief Financial Officer, work closely with the President and Provost, and partner with the Deans and faculty, providing strategic insight and technological expertise for this dynamic institution.

Founded in 1890, Columbia College Chicago is the largest private, not-for-profit arts and media college in the U.S. (7,312 students in Fall 2017). Columbia educates and prepares students for lives of creativity, innovation, and service, offering programs in a wide array of creative fields anchored by a strong commitment to the liberal arts. To be at Columbia is to join a broadly inclusive community, one that believes that the newest and best ideas of the twenty-first century will come from everywhere and everyone. The College community is inextricably linked to the city of Chicago, one of the world’s most lively cultural centers. Columbia’s urban campus, located in the city’s vibrant South Loop, places it at the center of an active and growing network of institutions of higher education.

Columbia College Chicago seeks an exceptional individual to provide innovative leadership for information technology at the institution. It is impossible to overstate the impact the CIO will have on the institution: given the mission of the College, information technology is key to the success of every educational, programmatic, operational, and systematic function. The individual overseeing this portfolio will be highly visible and influential, shaping the productivity, teaching, and learning of every single member of the community.

The ideal candidate will be an imaginative thought leader and an outstanding manager with an inclination and aptitude for collaboration. Experience in a higher education environment is highly preferred, given the interrelationship between Columbia’s education program and IT. The CIO will possess knowledge of trends and best practices in the field, as well as the sophistication to assess what may be appropriate for a setting as unique as Columbia. The CIO will also have keen strategic and planning skills, a thorough understanding of systems software and infrastructure, superb staff and project management skills, and a communicative and collegial working style.
