This position manages the financial, administrative, human resource, student affairs and research administration functions and operations for the Department of Earth, Environmental and Planetary Sciences and serves as the liaison between the Department and other offices responsible for determining University-wide policy, procedures, and services (e.g., Dean of the College, Dean of the Faculty, Human Resources, Controller’s Office, Sponsored Projects, Facilities, Graduate School, etc.). The selected candidate must have sufficient understanding of the Department’s programs and services and the processes and resources required to support them, and to support the faculty chair with day-to-day administrative operations. The manager provides strategic and fiscal planning to support the initiatives of the department.


  • Bachelor’s degree and 4 to 7 years relevant experience in finance, human resources, and business operations and planning, or the equivalent combination of education and experience, preferably in an academic environment, required.
  • Grant management research administration experience required.
  • Supervisory experience and leadership skills required.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, planning, and computing skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups of people with tact and diplomacy and to interact with staff at all organizational levels.
