Texas Southern University Establishes the Mathew Knowles Institute

Texas Southern University, the historically Black educational institution in Houston, has announced the establishment of the Mathew Knowles Institute. The institute will be operated by the Office of Continuing Education and will offer certificates in management, sales, marketing, career development, human resources, entrepreneurship, and entertainment. The online curriculum, which students can take at their own pace, is designed to teach students a wide range of practical skills necessary to succeed in today’s competitive music and entertainment businesses.

Austin Lane, president of Texas Southern University, stated that “Texas Southern University is committed to supporting and exceeding the changing needs of our students due to the steady growth of online education and degree programs. Full online degree programs provide more flexibility in achieving a college education for our diverse community of learners.”

Mathew Knowles is a graduate of Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee. After working as a salesman for diagnostic imaging equipment, in 1992 Knowles started Music World Entertainment and became a major figure in the music business. He later branched out into television and films. He has served as an adjunct professor at Texas Southern University.
