New Black Issues in Philosophy Blog Now Available Online

A new blog series produced by an editorial team in the philosophy department at the University of Connecticut, is being featured on the website of the American Philosophical Association. Lewis Gordon, a professor of philosophy with affiliations in Judaic studies, Caribbean and Latina/o studies, and Asian and Asian American studies at the University of Connecticut, serves as executive editor for Black Issues in Philosophy.

According to Professor Lewis, the purpose of this series is to offer announcements, discussions, critical reviews, opinionated statements (op-eds), and philosophical suggestions, ideas, or explorations relevant to the status of philosophers of African descent and readers interested in such issues.

Professor Gordon is a magna cum laude graduate of Lehman College of the City University of New York. He holds two master’s degrees and a Ph.D. from Yale University. He is the author or editor of many books including Not Only the Master’s Tools: African American Studies in Theory and Practice (Routledge, 2005).

Julie E. Maybee, a professor of philosophy at Lehman College at City University of New York and chair of the American Philosophical Society’s Committee on the Status of Black Philosophers, stated that “the blog allows us to highlight issues of concern within the global community of Black philosophers and to profile the work of Black philosophers who may have been overlooked.”
