Boise State University — President

The Idaho State Board of Education invites applications and nominations for the position of president of Boise State University. It is anticipated that the new president will assume office during the summer of 2018.

Boise State University is a metropolitan doctoral research university with more than 24,000 students. It has established creative and research strengths in materials science and engineering, geosciences fine arts, creative writing, biomolecular studies, public policy and more. Located on the banks of the scenic Boise River and just blocks from the cultural, political and economic center of Idaho, Boise State’s vibrant campus has undergone a $400 million transformation over the past 15 years. Over the same time, Boise State more than doubled its graduate programming, earned a doctoral research designation by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education, and has become a top choice for students from Idaho and across the West. The university has been called “demonstrably on the move” by the Chronicle of Higher Education and was one of five universities in the country recognized in 2017 by the Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities for innovative approaches to improving retention and graduation rates. It has welcomed record-setting first-year classes in the past two years and set a record for the number of total graduates in each of the past nine years. Boise State today boasts Idaho’s largest graduate school, enrolls around one-third of all students in Idaho’s public higher education system, and confers nearly half of all bachelor’s degrees awarded by the state’s public universities.

As the chief executive officer of Boise State University, the president is responsible for academic and administrative leadership, including advocacy and fundraising to support the institutional mission. The president facilitates, nurtures, coordinates, and supports the Boise State University administration, students, faculty, and staff, and carries out university, and Idaho State Board of Education policies and procedures. The President reports to the Idaho State Board of Education, which acts as the University’s Board of Trustees.
