University of New Mexico — Division Chief, Pediatric Emergency Medicine

FACULTY POSITION: The University of New Mexico, Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine is seeking a Division Chief to join our diverse and talented group of Pediatric Emergency Medicine Faculty. The Division Chief will support and advance a thriving clinical program, an excellent PEM fellowship, and a strong community research program.

Our facility is the only pediatric emergency department in New Mexico. We have an annual census of 23,000 visits per year. The University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center is also the single tertiary care facility and Level 1 Trauma Center for the state.

We are a PECARN research node and have a growing multi-state telemedicine program. We lead multiple community preparedness programs and research efforts throughout the state through our EMSC funded “Child Ready Program.” We are particularly focused on strengthening pediatric emergency care in tribal and rural areas of New Mexico.

Our Department of Emergency Medicine has 65 full-time and part-time attending physicians, and is also home to an outstanding EM Residency, EMS Academy and Center for Disaster Medicine. The University is located in the beautiful mountain west at the intersection of unique and diverse cultures. Our region offer outstanding recreational opportunities year round and is home to world class skiing, hiking, biking, climbing, arts, and cuisine.

Minimum requirements: The successful candidate will have completed a fellowship in Pediatric Emergency Medicine and be Board certified or Board prepared in Pediatrics and sub-boarded in Pediatric Emergency Medicine with 3 to 5 years of directly related experience which may include residency and fellowship in a Pediatrics and Pediatric EM. Must have a State of New Mexico and Federal DEA Certification at time of hire.

Preference will be given to applicants with strong clinical skills in Pediatrics and Pediatric Emergency Medicine. Applicants should have experience in teaching and excellent leadership experience with a demonstrated track record of designing and growing successful programs through open communication, team building and advocacy. In addition, outstanding negotiation skills and experience with strengthening inter-departmental relationships and show a vision for growth in the Division and Department, but also Pediatric Emergency Care within New Mexico.
