Summary of Position:
The University Librarian reports to the Senior Associate Provost and provides collaborative leadership in support of the educational, learning, and research activities of the University. This position administers and provides operational oversight, strategic planning, budgeting, fundraising, and assessment of library services, resources, programs, and facilities. The University Librarian currently has five direct reports, advocates for 24 library faculty and 26 staff in a highly user-focused organization and manages a budget of approximately $7.3 million. This position solicits gifts, leads fundraising efforts and represents Randall Library at the campus, local, regional, state, and national levels.

Minimum Requirements:

  • American Library Association accredited master’s degree in Library Science/Information Science.
  • Demonstrated record of successful, progressively responsible, library leadership at the academic/university level.
  • Demonstrated experience with budgeting and financial planning.
  • Dedication to a collaborative and inclusive management style.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to speak well in public.
  • Knowledge of issues and trends in higher education and academic libraries.
  • Documented experience leading successful strategic planning and visioning initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to advocate and represent the library within the campus community and external groups.
  • Experience with assessment and evaluation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with fund raising, donor relations, and/or university advancement.
  • Knowledge or experience with the grant process.
  • Experience planning and/or overseeing facility renovations or construction.
  • Experience with supporting emerging and established technologies.
  • A doctorate or a second master’s degree.
  • Knowledge or experience with the academic accreditation process.
  • Participation in professional library organizations.

William Madison Randall Library supports the mission of the University by providing information resources and learner-centered services and by cultivating a rich physical and virtual environment dedicated to the open exchange of ideas and an information-literate community.
