Two Black Scholars Honored by State Universities

Pamela Scott-Bracey, an assistant professor in the department of instructional systems and workforce development at Mississippi State University, was named Collegiate Teacher of the Year by the Southern Business Education Association. Dr. Scott-Bracey joined the faculty at Mississippi State in 2013.

Dr. Scott-Bracey is a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi, where she majored in business technology education. She holds a master’s degree in higher education administration from Mississippi College and a Ph.D. in applied technology and performance improvement from the University of North Texas.

Tennessee State University has announced that its multimedia newsroom will be named in honor of the late Getahn Ward, a long-time adjunct professor of journalism at the school. Ward died in December at the age of 45. (See JBHE post.)

Tameka Winston, chair of the department of communications at Tennessee State University, said that “this servant leader, journalist, man of faith, and professor made a huge impact on our students. Naming the multimedia newsroom in his honor is our way of permanently recognizing his contributions to the department.”
