Racist Posts on Social Media Reportedly Made by Students at the University of Pittsburgh

According to reports in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the Office of Diversity and Inclusion at the university is looking into a series of racist posts on social media that were included in a group message by several university students. The posts were contained in an anonymous Twitter account, @PittRacists.

The offensive material included a picture of some African American children eating cotton candy that included the caption: “You Mean I Don’t Have to Pick it and Can Eat It?!” Another posted inquired, “What is one thing a Black guy can’t say?” The answer was, “Hello, Dad.”

Some of the people identified with the posts were members of the College Republicans at the university. The organization issued a statement on Twitter saying “the individuals who posted the offensive materials were reprimanded immediately and have been formally removed from the College Republicans.”

  1. I would hope that the university takes some sort of action against these students as well. Being reprimanded and removed from the organization is a mere slap on the wrist. i believe that these students should be suspended from school and be allowed to return in the fall. This will send a strong message that this type of behavior will not be tolerated at The University of Pittsburgh
