New Diversity Center to Open on the Campus of Cedar Crest College

Cedar Crest college, a liberal arts educational for women in Allentown, Pennsylvania, has announced the establishment of the Center for Diversity and Global Engagement on campus. The center will be located in Allen House, which originally served as the college president’s residence. African Americans make up 9 percent of the undergraduate students at the college, according to the latest U.S. Department of Education statistics.

The college spent over $1 million to renovate the new space which will also house the Office of Global Initiatives and International Programs, and international student services. A ceremony opening the new center will be held on the holiday celebrating Martin Luther King’s birthday.

Elizabeth Meade, interim president of Cedar Crest College, said that “the Center for Diversity and Global Engagement will be a wonderful addition to our campus. It will be a welcoming space where students of all backgrounds, religions, cultures, and values can come together to share experiences and ideas.”
