Wake Forest University seeks a strategic, collaborative, and energetic leader to serve as the University’s next Chief Diversity Officer (CDO). The CDO will jointly report to the President and Provost, underscoring the importance of this role at this point in Wake Forest’s journey to further advance and invigorate its climate of diversity and inclusion. The University is committed to a culture of intellectual engagement and substantive advances around issues of diversity and inclusion. The next CDO will: envision and implement, in collaboration with partners across the University, even more aspirational standards of diversity and inclusion; enhance a culture of evaluating and assessing the impact of these efforts; promote the necessity of putting inclusion into practice alongside diversity efforts; and help Wake Forest to realize its full potential to become a leader in diversity and inclusion in the national higher education landscape.

Located in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Wake Forest University is currently ranked #27 among national universities by U.S. News & World Report. The University enrolls 7,968 students (4,955 undergraduate students and 3,013 graduate and professional students). In addition to the Undergraduate College, Wake Forest is comprised of thriving Schools of Business, Divinity, Law, Medicine, and a Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. The main Reynolda campus houses most constituent schools and programs; the School of Medicine is co-located at the University’s medical center four miles away and at a downtown campus, which features both medical education and undergraduate programs in biomedical sciences and engineering. The Chief Diversity Officer will report jointly to the President and Provost on policies, programs, services, and current issues that shape and promote the University’s goals and progress on diversity and inclusion. Joining a vibrant senior leadership team that emphasizes collegiality and collaboration, the CDO will be a strategic leader and partner, relationship builder, and advisor, helping empower stakeholders across the institution to identify and execute initiatives that will have a lasting impact on the University’s culture and environment. The CDO will lead and continue to enhance the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, which includes five divisions whose directors report to the CDO.

The ideal candidate for Wake Forest’s next CDO will be a dynamic and inspirational leader who has relevant experience in academic administration or through scholarship, and/or from work experiences that demonstrate commitment to diversity and inclusion within a complex institutional setting. In addition to being a leading voice in the University community, the CDO will be a thought leader in conversations about diversity and inclusion on the local, state, and national levels and higher education landscape. The CDO must have a keen understanding of issues related to diversity and inclusion, a capability to contribute to national best practices, an appreciation for the values associated with these issues in higher education, and well-developed skills in facilitating inclusive dialogues that enable positive growth and transformational change. Furthermore, the CDO will be able to work effectively with people at all different levels, including senior leadership and administration, faculty, students, alumni, and the surrounding community.
